Here is your update. Thank you for your diligence and dedication! You are making a difference!
SB 242--This is the bill that places the state treasurer on the OTRS and OPERS boards. OREA opposes this bill--same status as last week; it passed out of committee but it has NOT yet been placed on the House floor agenda. Hoping maybe leadership is keeping this bill off the floor and it might be dead for the session (Thursday, April 27th is the deadline). We are still encouraging representatives to vote NO if it does come to the floor.
SB 170--stops the next trigger on cutting the state income tax--passed the house on Wednesday! The next step will be to go back to the senate for a final vote, but since it already passed the senate once, most likely will so again, then it will go to the Governor. OREA supports this bill.
HB 1846--moves gross production dedicated revenue for schools from flowing through the county treasurer to being appropriated through the funding formula--was still sitting in the A&B Sub-Finance committee. The deadline for A&B (Appropriations and Budget) to be passed out of committee was yesterday, so this should mean this bill is now dead for the session!
HB 2316--allows appointees to state boards and commissions to be removed without cause--was recommended do pass out of the rules committee in the senate, but hasn’t been on an agenda yet. OREA leans to oppose. Here is the vote in committee:
Recommendation: DO PASS AS AMENDED
Aye: Bice, Dahm, David, Griffin, Simpson, Stanislawski, Marlatt, Fields
Nay: Floyd, Standridge, Thompson
The bill was ammended in committee and the link to read it is here: http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok...
Please encourage representatives and senators to work together--regardless of party--to create some new revenue streams and to pass a state budget that restores essential services! This is the real crisis!
On a side note--OREA is working to create a COOKBOOK of our member's best recipes. Proceeds from the sale of this cookbook will go to support our OREA Fund. Please start gathering those recipes and start sending them in to us--either by mail or email--to help us put this together. More information will be forthcoming.
Thanks for all that you do,
